Benedicto:

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your rivers flow without end, meandering through pastoral valleys tinkling with bells, past temples and castles and poets’ towers into a dark primeval forest where tigers belch and monkey’s howl, through miasmal and mysterious swamps and down into a desert of red rock, blue mesas, domes and pinnacles and grottos of endless stone, and down again into a deep vast ancient unknown chasm where bars of sunlight blaze on profiled cliffs, where deer walk across the white sand beaches where storms come and go as lightening clangs upon the high crags, where something strange and more beautiful and more full of wonder than your deepest dreams waits for you---beyond that next turning of the canyon walls. ---Edward Abbey (thanks Trudy Hall)

Jordan for a day

Dancing in the Roman Theater:
Our favorite Tel Aviv plae for Shakshuka, "the Magician"

November 13—brought us back to Jordan from Tel Aviv for two days and one night.  Les still has some issues with breathing: cold? Asthma? Bronchitis? Allergies?

It’s great to be in the city of Amman; the people are SO NICE!

They always welcome us and are joking and friendly.  We settled in then went looking for the post office and office supplies store.  Then wandered toward the Greek ruins.  We spent quite a bit of time in the theater, climbing the steps and dancing around the place.  We went in to look at a museum with lots of Bedouin artifacts: clothing, jewelry, embroidery, carpets, instruments and a great pair of boots that I would love to try on.

The Lonely Planet books always have great recommendations, so we went to their favorite place for hummus, falafel and fuul (fava bean sauce).  The food was yummy, rich in good olive oil, and all for about $5. The men working there were happy and joking; it was a pleasure.
November 14—today is a trip planning day: finding couch hosts, canceling hostels, making plans. TRAVELLING TO TANZANIA!!!!! (A 2 day trip on several planes.)

Who is that "Masked Man?" (too much dust)
